- (I hope I have my facts straight here - no reference material around)
-
- Hmm.. the full 16-bit implementation is a bit hard to do when using only
- the 8-bit (XT) bus-connector (which only has 10 address bits, the rest
- being in the ISA extension). When the ISA (AT bus) extension was done,
- it was intended that an adapter may only use this kind of "high" addresses
- if it itself uses the corresponding base address (i.e. the address that
- has the same lowest 10 bits).
-
- Still, even this is not safe - I've seen _motherboards_ that only decode
- 10 address bits for the ISA bus. While speking with the technicians of
- the manufacturer, I got replies along the lines of "no-one's going to
- use more than those 10 bits anyway..".

-
- Has any of you seen an internal (IBMPC) modem with the full ISA connector
- lately?

-
- A good piece of advice.
